Question 1

What gives DelayU-42 its vintage 80s digital delay character?

Accepted Answer

DelayU-42 captures vintage 1980s rack delay character through hardware-modeled cascaded filtering and a dual opto-limiter. The cascaded filters progressively darken each successive echo repeat to prevent mix muddiness, while the opto-limiter smooths peak transients with warm analog saturation.

Question 2

How CPU-heavy is DelayU-42 during large mix sessions?

Accepted Answer

DelayU-42 features an ultra-lightweight, real-time safe C++ DSP engine with zero latency and negligible CPU usage. It is engineered to run dozens of simultaneous instances in 100+ track sessions without causing audio dropouts or CPU spikes, even on older laptops.

Question 3

Why is MKS Mixing giving DelayU-42 away for free?

Accepted Answer

DelayU-42 was built by mixing engineer MKS to deliver an authentic 80s studio delay without expensive paywalls or intrusive DRM. It is distributed 100% free with direct installers and no account or signup required.

Question 4

Is DelayU-42 good for heavier music with a lot of low end?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The cascaded filtering in DelayU-42 progressively rolls off low frequencies and high-frequency hash with every repeat, keeping echoes clearly out of the way of heavy kick drums, basslines, and dense distorted guitars.

Question 5

Does DelayU-42 work well on lead vocals?

Accepted Answer

Yes. DelayU-42 provides smooth spatial depth for lead vocals without harsh digital sibilance. The dual opto-limiter compresses repeats so dynamic vocal passages stay transparent and never overpower the dry performance.
